I am getting excited that it is almost November, which means time to participate in NaNoWriMo National Novel Writing Month. This is a wonderful non-profit that organizes and provides support for an annual novel writing “frenzy” every November. There are forums to share ideas, get help with plot elements, characters and just motivation.
Anyone can sign up and track their word count (you don’t write your novel on the site, just check in with word counts and use the many resources). When you set up your account, you can add you novel title, cover, synopsis and even a short excerpt (once you write one). There are volunteers in some areas that set up local write ins, and you can acquire writing buddies.
You can find free and discounted tools for participants. There are also free banners and social media badges, and posters and t-shirts for sale. Of course, you can make a donation to support their work.
The ultimate goal, as a participant, is to win. In order to win, you have to write 50,000 words by Nov. 30.
This will be my first year. Come find me at NaNoWriMo, my handle is wwdove17.
