I began my fantasy WIP, currently titled “The Sword of Chaos,” last August by coming up with some characters and a really rough draft of the plot. I’m not much of a planner, but I put enough together to make a run at NaNoWriMo 2017 and somehow typed 50k words on my computer. It wasn’t until this Summer that I finally “finished” the first draft. I was so happy to “finish” it that I left a lot of plot holes and know it really wasn’t done (but it was 80k!)
Right now, my sister has her hands on the manuscript and I haven’t heard from her since chapter 15. There are only 20 chapters so I’m thinking she got lost and I’m going to have to send a scouting party out for her. I hope the Void didn’t swallow her up!
In all honesty, I am not expecting anything terrible from her, I already know many of the issues I need to correct, but it will be good to see how someone who isn’t familiar with the story handles the number of characters I am using. Since my novel is intended to be part of a larger world and story line, there will be places where I can expand, and plot points that won’t resolve at the end of the first book. That is not to say the main goal of the MCs won’t be tied up at the end, just that side stories, character histories, and new problems will emerge leaving the door wide open for more books.
